📚 First Friday Book Club 9.7.18 Meeting Notes 📚

Greetings, Bookies!

The inaugural First Friday Book Club meeting on September 7 was a wonderful success. Our group reflects a cross-section of literary tastes which should ensure many interesting conversations to come. We have members with preferences (among many genres) for crime/court procedure novels, historical fiction, biographies, theological works -  and everything in between. We plan to carpe librum (Seize the Book) this upcoming year!

LibraryThing link:

A little info: Organizations of every kind—from churches to law firms—use LibraryThing to create a online catalog of their books. It's an easy, cheap and fun solution to getting a book list online. I will add each of the titles we decide to read to our LibraryThing shelf, and you can see them (and visit reviews of them) even without having an account of your own. (Accounts are free, if you decide to open one for yourself.)

Please let me know if you have any trouble visiting our shelf at  http://www.librarything.com/catalog/1stFriday-McKinney/yourlibrary

Nominate books for November and December 2018:

If you will email me the info on two books you would like to nominate, I will add them to my SurveyMonkey and send an interactive link around in a week or two. All you need to do is email me the title and author (but feel free to send more info, if you like.) Please let me know if you have any questions about this, or if I can help with anything. Once I have two titles from everyone, I will send around the anonymous survey and we can vote about when we want to read each book. (It sounds a lot more complicated than it really is! ) We should end up with a list of twelve books, which will get us through an entire year of conversation!

PDF version of September book

In case you have trouble finding a library copy of  To Kill a Mockingbird, please let me know. I do have access to a free PDF version, which can be loaded to an ebook reader such as Kindle.  It will expire on October 8 2018, so it will not provide a permanent edition but it would get you through our group  discussion on October 7. Just reply to this email and I will email you a PDF file (size = 632 KB)

Books, sites and authors mentioned in the September conversation include:

· There Is A River by Mary Anne Lynn and Anna Marie Simon (book)

· Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (book)

· The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (book)
