🗓️ 2019 is off to a great start! 🗓️

Greetings, First Friday Book Club Members: Our January 4th meeting was filled with lots of interesting conversation and different points of view on "Buster Midnight's Cafe" by Sandra Dallas. We mostly agreed that this was an appealing tale,  without many social or political subtexts -  but maybe not as light-hearted and comical as the reviewers would have us believe.Butte, Montana during WWII made for a unique backdrop to a different kind of narrative, and most of us liked something about the book (even if we might not have picked it up without the incentive of the Book Club behind us.) It was great to have two new members join us (Carla and Pam!) and Nancy made it, too! Now, we look forward to catching up with those of you who have been away over the holidays - February 1st will be here before you know it!

Other assorted intriguing books discussed in this meeting:"Green Mansions" by  William Henry Hudson (available on Project Gutenberg for download here:) Audrey Hepburn was in the movie:"Ring World" by Larry Niven (Voted one of the best audio books ever recorded)Did you know they are still publishing The World Book Encyclopedia in print? $999 and it is all yours! 14,000 pages!

Our book for next month is Code Girls by Liza Mundy, which should be fascinating:

“It was easy,” Mundy writes, “to understand how women with this much spirit and fortitude helped the allies win the war.”

The rest of our reading year (the full list) is on the web page here: Also - I will send around a customized bingo card later this month, if you would like to participate in our version of this cool game.Watch for it!
